We are a company builder called Prufrock Ventures. Our founding team has worked together for years. We’ve built and sold businesses, taking
ideas from PPT to customers to acquisition. Prior to our exits, we’ve raised financing from Lightspeed, Khosla, GGV and other top venture
funds. Many of us are ex-Amazon. We’re a close knit group looking for superstars to join the team. Over the next five years we plan to build

About Role

As a company builder, we are in the business of launching new products and services at scale. Ours is a nuclear startup team in a box - engineering, product design, business development, brand and growth. We are seeking a talented product designer with lots of expertise in design, product strategy and customer research to support us in developing new products from zero to one - understanding what will make the product unique and differentiated, what is the customer journey and what are the steps in that journey to delight new and existing customers, what is the MVP and early roadmap. You have strong product intuition. You are expert at customer discovery, both quantitative and qualitative. You can evidence exceptional design skills that you marry with customer discovery. And your view of the work you do is grounded in the customer where you work backwards from feedback from customers, the Studio team and our broader network to drive product design.

About You

You are a great fit if you are one of those deeply curious people who likes to build new things. You ideally have a track record of launching many different technology products from early idea to product in market to scale. You have plenty of experience in customer discovery and architecting feedback loops to understand what works and what needs to be changed in products you’ve built. You have lots of design experience and a strong portfolio to showcase. Bonus points if you have experience that spans consumer and B2B. You’ll be able to provide lots of evidence working with high performing engineering teams and business and marketing teams. You might even have founded your own startup. You must have experience in the zero to one of product development and launch. Big bonus if you also have lots of agency experience at Frog or Ideo or a comparable. And finally you love the experience of startups and want to be a part of many startups that ultimately are launched via Prufrock.

Core Requirements

• 5-10 years experience in full stack product design, customer research and product development.
• Many examples of executing UI/UX product design from zero to one of new product / company build.
• Must be scrappy, self-starting, with a strong bias for action, ownership and desire to move fast.
  
• Strong design portfolio that you can showcase.
  
• Expertise in customer research, including 1-1 interviews, surveys, focus groups, etc.
• Expertise with best in class tools for building research programs, e.g. participant recruiting.
• Evidence of deep customer empathy and working backwards from customers to inform product strategy.
• Expertise developing design assets (e.g. marketing collateral, pitch decks).
  
• Background in design thinking and other design first methodologies
• Expertise working with engineering and growth marketing teams.
• Ability to move fast in developing new product POCs to validate product opportunities.
• Startup experience as either a product co-founder or member of a fast moving product and design team.
• Highly curious and continuously exploring new ideas across a variety of industries, technologies, etc.
• World-class communicator with a talent for articulating how data decisions drive your strategy.
• Location agnostic with a preference for New York and the Bay Area.
